You are so right. I should have mentioned that. I discovered when weeding out the word some, the Find tool highlighted something and someone. So I should add to read through before you hit replace or delete a word if it could be found in another word e.g. very is also in every and everyone…Good advice, Joselyn. Thanks.

The word ‘just’ is insidious. It just sneaks in everywhere. The find and replace is awesome. Just (see?) make sure you match the whole word or you will end up with the new word in places you didn’t intend and a mess. Speaking from experience, of course. I think a Ted became a Dave and then words like ‘wasted’ became ‘wasDave’.

Six months is too long for you to wait! I would wait two months tops. I used to think “no news is good news” in regards to submissions, thinking that if I wasn’t hearing back on something, it meant it was still being considered. After the last few months and querying a total of 80 agents regarding a cancer memoir I’d written I started back to work on a different book, one that got very quick responses and I now have an agent for. It made me realize that agents at least respond quickly to something that grabs their interest. I write for anthologies a lot, however, and the response time is quite long with them. It has been as much as a year for an acceptance. You could e-mail and ask the status of your manuscript if you want the green light to send elsewhere.
